Is all the foreign money coming into English football good for the game?

First there was Abramovich taking over chelsea and Man Utd, Liverpool and Aston Villa being taken over by americans as well as foreign buyers of Portsmouth and West Ham.

Now we Have more American Billionaires trying to buy Arsenal and Southampton. When will it all end? is having all this foreign money good for the future of the game, a lot of these people don’t even have a real interest in football so what will happen when they discover you can’t really make money from football?

Answer
absolutely not. look at how chelski abuses the transfer system by paying exorbitant fees… no one can compete with abramovich unless someone is bill gates or warren buffet.

man utd was also a profitable plc until the glazers took over. now the club has to service the loan amount the glazers borrowed from banks to complete their takeover.

the same with liverpool although on a more manageable scale.

and the poor fans suffer because they have to bear the brunt of ticket prices hike…

Man United seems to lose the race for the title as Chelsea already has four points ahead at the top. Alex Ferguson’s boys will have to pass a hard test Saturday in the derby of Manchester, in which they will face Man City, a team which fights with Tottenham for the fourth place. Chelsea, on the other hand, will travel to White Hart Lane to meet Tottenham.

Could David Cameron’s ‘allegiance’ with Aston Villa give him that edge in the Midland’s constituencies in 2010?

Whilst Gordon Brown probably won’t gain anything because of his support for a minor Scottish team, Cameron may have chosen wisely by pledging his loyalty to the biggest and most popular football club in the Midlands. Although he has no real links with the midlands (born, educated and resides in the South-east), the seats in the Midlands are very marginal. Good choice for Cameron then?

Answer
possibly im not sure

Aston Villa Vs Everton Live Wednesdayamp#039s Premier League Betting

Aston Villa home is Villa Park in Birmingham. Aston Villa have played football there since 1897.

Aston Villa vs Everton Live  – Wednesday’s Premier League Betting

There are three matches being played in the Premier League this evening, with the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal being the big one, and we’ll be previewing all three games here:

Aston Villa v Everton:

Everton sit in eighth in the league, just one place and four points behind the Midlanders, and will be looking to gain the three points in an attempt to continue their late season push for a European spot. Despite Aston Villa going off the boil in recent weeks, they are still the favourites to win the match @ 6/5 with Paddy Power. Everton are available at 23/10 and the draw is the same price.

Villa have drawn five of their last six home games and their only win came against a poor Burnley side. Everton have drawn their last two games in the Midlands (2-2 v Birmingham City and 0-0 v Wolves) and have won two, lost two and drawn three of their last seven away league matches. Also, the last two meetings between these two sides have ended level and three of the last five meetings have been level. Both sides have scored in all of the last five meetings between the teams.

BetRepublic.com Recommends: Back the draw @ 23/10 with both teams to score @ 4/6 with Soccer Betting Tip.

Wigan Athletic v Portsmouth:

This game is a must win game for Wigan, they sit 17th in the league and just four points above Burnley and Hull City and they will have played one game more than Hull after this match. Should they lose this game they will be in trouble as they have to face Arsenal and Chelsea before the end of the season. Luckily for them they face an already relegated Portsmouth side that only cares about the FA Cup final now.

I don’t see this game being a high scoring game as Wigan have scored either one or no goals in their last eight home league games while Portsmouth have failed to score in five of their last seven away league games.

BetRepublic Recommends: Wigan to win to nil @ 23/20 and under 2.5 goals @ 4/5

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal:

This game is the big game of the evening! Both sides will be looking for the win – Spurs to push for the fourth Champions League qualification spot and Arsenal are looking to leapfrog Manchester United into second place in the league. Who will take the points at White Hart Lane?

Arsenal will be the more rested of the two sides as they have not played a match since they were beaten at the Nou Camp last Tuesday, while Spurs played 120 minutes of football at Wembley when they were beaten by Portsmouth in the FA Cup Semi Final on Sunday. Both sides have many injury worries, mainly in the defensive areas, but Arsenal will be boosted as Robin Van Persie has returned to the squad after five months out injured.

Paddy Power believe that Arsenal will win this match, despite Spurs having won six and drawn two of their last eight home league games, and have made them favourites at 5/4 to win. Tottenham are available at 11/5 and the draw is 9/4. I happen to agree with Paddy Power and I think that Arsenal will win this game.

BetRepublic.com Recommends: Arsenal to beat Spurs @ 5/4 with both sides to score @ 8/13.

Similar Football strips- Aston Villa ,West Ham ,Burnley?

Could anybody tell me please if it is just coincidence or is there a reason why these 3 clubs have almost identical strips.

Answer
For Aston Villa – Nobody is quite sure why claret and blue became the club’s adopted colours.

West Ham – The original colours of the team were dark blue, due to Thames Ironworks chairman Arnold Hills being a former student of Oxford University. However the team used a variety of kits including the claret and sky blue house colours of Thames Ironworks, as well as sky blue or white uniforms.[19][20]

The Irons permanently adopted claret and blue for home colours in the summer of 1899. Thames Ironworks right-half Charlie Dove received the Aston Villa kit from his father William Dove, who was a professional sprinter of national repute, as well as being involved with the coaching at Thames Ironworks. Bill Dove had been at a fair in Birmingham, close to Villa Park, the home ground of Aston Villa and was challenged to a race against four Villa players, who wagered money that one of them would win.

Bill Dove defeated them and, when they were unable to pay the bet, one of the Villa players who was responsible for washing the team’s kit offered a complete side’s ‘uniforms’ to Dove in payment. The Aston Villa player subsequently reported to his club that the kit was ‘missing’.

Burnley – Burnley changed their colours from green to their now traditional claret and sky blue for the 1910-11 season, reportedly aiming to enjoy the same success enjoyed by Aston Villa who also wore those colours

It appears as tho’ Aston Villa is the common denominator

another link thro’ strip is Notts County and Juventus.. Juve originally played in red but when the kit was washed it turned pink. A official of Juve had a friend who worked at Notts County and he asked him if they had any spare strips going. Hence Juventus now play in Black and White stripped jerseys

Aston Villa V Chelsea Live Streaming Weekend Football Betting

Aston Villa Football Team play at Villa Park Stadium in Birmingham. Aston Villa Football Team have played there since 1897.

WEEKEND FOOTBALL BETTING -  Aston Villa v Chelsea Live Soccer Betting Tip

This weekend sees three massive clashes around Europe as Real Madrid host Barcelona in ‘El Clasico’ on Saturday and we will find out who will be contesting the FA Cup final. BetRepublic.com previews all three games and provides you some excellent value bets here.

Real Madrid v Barcelona:

This match promises to be the game of the season in La Liga. Real Madrid are top of the table ahead of Barcelona, but both sides have 77 points and Real are one goal better off in the goal difference charts at +57 compared to Barca’s +56. Paddy Power have Real Madrid as the favourites at 7/5 to win the game as they have won all fifteen league matches at the Bernabeu this season. Despite their awesome performance against Arsenal midweek, Barcelona are the outsiders, but not by much, at 7/4 and the draw is available at 23/10.

Barca’s away form has seen them win ten, draw four and lose one match on the road this season. The match at the Nou Camp earlier in the season saw Barcelona emerge with a 1-0 win, but last time these sides met in Madrid Barcelona ran out 6-2 winners. How will this game go? Both sides are scoring and conceding plenty of goals, so there should be a few in this one.

BetRepublic.com Recommends: Back Lionel Messi to score anytime @ evens and there to be more than 3.5 goals in the game @ 11/8 with Paddy Power.

Aston Villa v Chelsea:

The first FA Cup Semi Final kicks off at 17:00 BST on Saturday evening and Martin O’Neill’s men will be looking to reach their second cup final of the season. However, they will have to overcome the side that demolished them 7-1 at Stamford Bridge two weeks ago. This will be Villa’s second visit to Wembley this season and lost their first match – the Carling Cup Final – to Manchester United.

Villa’s recent form has trailed off and they have won just three of their last seven games in all competitions, drawing three and the 7-1 loss to Chelsea being the other game. Chelsea have won five of their last seven, losing just once and drawing once. They have won their last three games, including beating Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, and will be highly confident of winning this game. I believe that they will win this match too.

BetRepublic.com Recommends: Chelsea to win the match @ 4/7 with Paddy Power and both sides to score @ 4/5 with William Hill.

Tottenham Hotspur v Portsmouth:

This game is the most important game of Portsmouth’s season. They are all but relegated from the Premier League and they have nothing left to play for apart from progression to the FA Cup final. However, they will have to face their former manager and his Spurs side in order to reach the final. Will they be able to do so?

Both sides have a massive amount of injuries to contend with this weekend, with Spurs’ problems mainly located in the defensive areas, while Portsmouth are missing players all over the pitch. As a result of this, and the fact that Portsmouth have really given up in the Premier League, the form book goes out of the window. Yes, Tottenham are the better side of the two, but with Portsmouth being practically relegated their players will be looking to showcase themselves for moves away from the doomed club. Where better to do this than an FA Cup Semi Final? I think that the game will be a close, tight affair but Spurs quality will win out in the 90 minutes.

BetRepublic.com Recommends: Back under 2.5 goals to be scored in the match @ 5/4 and Peter Crouch to score anytime @ 4/5 with William Hill.

Premier League – Football Betting News

Aston Villa Football Club are located at Villa Park Football Ground in Birmingham. Aston Villa Football Club have played football there since 1897.

Barely a week after rumours of a Rafa exit Liverpool’s title hopes have been reignited. A deserved victory over incumbent champions Manchester United not only brought joy to the ardent support in the Kop, but sending-offs for Nemanja Vidic and Javier Mascherano did extremely well for buyers of Sporting Index’s football bet bookings spread (final make-up 100pts) and the popular Fat Lady spread which awards points for events in the closing ten minutes.

The confidence the players must have taken from that game at Anfield is sure to make the Reds a tricky proposition for Fulham in their Halloween meeting in West London. Although buyers of Liverpool’s win index spread will be confident in light of the team’s four wins from six away to Fulham, spread sellers will know that the Cottagers are unbeaten in their five games in October. Buyers of the Reds’ supremacy spread will, however, point out that Roy Hodgson’s side have lost two of this campaign’s four Premier League games at Craven Cottage, to Chelsea and Arsenal, two of Liverpool’s ‘Big Four’ colleagues. Goal machine Fernando Torres has scored nine league goals already this season, and looked superb last weekend, reportedly at only 80% fitness. Should he be any closer to peak condition, he is sure to scare the wits out of Fulham’s centre-back pairing – buyers of his player performance spread will certainly hope he is.

Top-of-the-league Chelsea have made a largely formidable start to the season and in beating Blackburn 5-0 last weekend looked nothing short of majestic. Even though spread buyers of the Blues’ supremacy were chuffed with a sizeable income, they might also have been disappointed the winning margin wasn’t greater. Buyers of Chelsea’s win index spread will be hoping that Carlo Ancelotti’s side can continue their hot streak against Bolton Wanderers this weekend. Spread bettors looking to buy the Blues’ supremacy spread would be encouraged by Chelsea’s impressive head-to-head record against the Trotters, where they have proven to be unbeatable in their past 11 meetings (W8-D3-L0). On-form striker Didier Drogba has found the back of the net in five out of six in the league, bringing his total up to eight for the season – sure to excite buyers of his player performance spread.

Two challengers to the Big Four’s monopoly of the top league places in recent years also go toe-to-toe on Saturday. Spread punters will be aware that Everton, who host Aston Villa, have had a poor start to the season and have not been helped by injuries to key players. Villa on the other hand reacted positively to an opening day defeat to Wigan and have since beaten Liverpool and Chelsea. While spread buyers and sellers will be fairly evenly split on these teams’ win index spreads, the total goals and goal minutes spreads should be more popular with buyers. Not one of the three meetings between the sides last year produced less than four goals, while spread buyers of goal minutes in this fixture last year will fondly remember Joleon Lescott’s injury-time equalizer for Toffees, before Ashley Young broke Goodison hearts to take the spread market make-up to 265, and the score to 3-2, seconds later.

My Football Facts amp Stats Editorial World Cup 2010 PlayOffs amp Premier League Matchday 13

Aston Villa Football Club are located at Villa Park Football Ground in Birmingham. Aston Villa Football Club have played there since 1897.

Liverpool host Manchester City in Saturday’s early kick-off match in a contest which is vital for both sides who are desperate to claw their way back into the Top 4. Liverpool have only picked-up 7 from the last 18 points available and their title challenge has all but disappeared,  while big-spending Manchester City are on a run of five successive draws.

Fulham will be looking to continue their good run of current form when they visit Birmingham City, who have won just 5 points from the last 18. Burnley’s excellent home form is in stark contrast to their away form, where they have picked-up just the single point away from Turf Moor. Aston Villa will have a tough game on their hands when they visit the Lancashire club on Saturday.

Chelsea’s season has stepped-up a gear and they are now 5 points ahead of their nearest rivals at the top of the Premier League table. Only a very brave man would bet on Wolves getting anything from their visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. At the other end of the table, Hull City host West Ham United in a clash between the 17th & 18th placed teams in the League.

Arsenal’s superb recent form, which has seen them amass 16 from the last 18 points have a tough match on their hands at Sunderland, who were unlucky to have lost last time out to Spurs. The Black Cats need to get back to winning ways if they hope to stand a chance of European football next season. The late kick-off on Saturday evening sees a stuttering Manchester United take-on an improving Everton at Old Trafford. United have only dropped two points in their last 6 matches at home, so Everton will have their work cut-out to come away with anything.

A local North-West derby between Bolton and Blackburn starts Sunday’s fixtures with the visitors in 14th place ahead of the home side who are struggling in 16th place. Tottenham Hotspur, up to 4th in the table after a win over Sunderland and with 10 points from the last available 18, are at home to 13th placed Wigan Athletic (full match preview), who have only beaten Spurs once before in their history. The final Sunday match is between 9th placed Stoke City and the League’s bottom club Portsmouth. The current form of both clubs is similar, with Stoke winning 8 and Portsmouth 7 of the last 18 points up for grabs.

Four of the six clubs with a game in hand play on Wednesday night when Hull City are at home to Everton and Fulham host Blackburn Rovers. This leaves only Arsenal and Manchester City as the two clubs in the Premier League on 12 matches played.

Dean Ashton to Villa?

There already looks like there going to be many big-money signings to come before Monday midnight and this could be another one.

I think West Ham really need to hold on to him-despite the money and everything this is their star player. If they want to cut the wage bill I suggest they sell waste-of-spaces like Boa Morte and Kieron Dyer The former because he is a shocking player! and the latter who will always be injured-and is on £70,000 a week!! But after the Anton Ferdinand sale it seems Curbishley doesn’t get a say for them.

Though having said that I’d love to see Ashton here at Villa Park and this would be a brilliant signing for us. I’d imagine if West Ham are willing to sell we will have serious completion for him-Manchester United and Tottenham are teams I can really see him playing for Maybe Manchester City too.

Fans of West Ham, Villa or anyone else, What do you make of this?

Answer
I think West Ham would be very clever to sell him, His value must have went up a by about a million or 2 after scoring a hat trick in the premiership being as fickle and rich as the premiership is.

I know they are interested in pandiani but the transfer of the season for them would be to get bilic back as the manager.

Curbishley is alright but i think hes the kinda manager does a good job at helping 1st division teams get up into the premiership and that is where his talent lays not so much in pushing a team already in the top.

If they can get good money for him then i think they would be best to take the money and let him go as you certainly will not be seeing anymore hatricks in the premier league out of him.

I am impressed with West ham and Their Positive approach with signings, they look the part only the managers bench looks a bit stiff.

Bring in bilic and get with the big boys.

Aston Villa Football Team are located at Villa Park in Birmingham. Aston Villa Football Team have played there since 1897.

My Football Facts & Stats Editorial – Premier League Matchday 14 & League Cup Quarter Finals

Matchday 14 of the Premier League  features three outstanding fixtures: Aston Villa v Spurs on Saturday and two derbies on Sunday – Everton v Liverpool and Arsenal v Chelsea. Villa and Spurs are two teams who many tip to challange for a Top Four finish and the late kick-off on Saturday sees fifth placed Villa take on fourth placed Spurs. Tottenham’s confidence should be sky high after their 9-1 demolishion of Wigan last time out, while Villa’s form has been patchy in recent week.

9th placed Stoke travel to 12th placed Blackburn, who have started to pick-up points recently. Fulham, fresh from a 3-0 mid-week win over Blackburn which lifted them up to 10th, host a struggling Bolton who have dropped down to the relegation zone in 18th place. Manchester City, who have drawn their last 6 matches, are at home to Hull City who came out on top of a five goal thriller against Everton in mid-week. City’s run of draws has seen them drop to 6th place while the Tigers are up to 15th. Bottom placed Portsmouth, who have just sacked their manager Paul Hart, must face second-placed Manchester United at Fratton Park.

West Ham have climbed above the drop zone and are in 17th place and face Burnley, a side who have only picked-up one point in their travels this season. Burnley’s home form has been good enough to keep them in 11th place though. The side with the worst defensive record in the League, Wigan Athletic, are at home to 8th placed Sunderland. Wigan were on the receiving end of a 9-1 thrashing at White Hart Lane last weekend, which included 8 second-half goals for Spurs. Sunderland had a great 1-0 win over Arsenal to keep them in touching distance of the European places.

The early Sunday kick-off sees Woves, deep in trouble in 19th place, at home to local rivals Birmingham City who are 13th. Wolves went down 4-0 to Chelsea last weekend while Birmingham picked-up the points at home against Fulham. The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool follows with both clubs some way off their best form. Everton lost 3-2 to Hull mid-week while Liverpool shared 4 goals at home to Manchester City. The two clubs are 14th and 7th in the standings respectively.

The final match of the weekend is perhaps the one most eagerly anticipated – third placed Arsenal at home to League leaders Chelsea. Arsenal slipped-up badly at Sunderland last time out while Chelsea’s form continues to impress after a solid 4-0 win at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Would the Premier League or English football as a whole suffer if Man Utd and Liverpool go into administration?

Would the Premier League lose it’s place as the number one league in the world?
Sure it would be nice for other teams to get in the Champions League but could Tottenham, Aston Villa or Man City really put up a serious challenge for the Champions League trophy like Chelsea and Man Utd could?

Answer
good question i think it would definetly ruin the prems reputation as the worlds 2nd bigggest league (id put la liga top atm)
if man u went into into administration there’d be massive concern because they are the worlds biggest club, the club people dream of playing for
man city could replace them
if Liverpool went into admin i would laugh, a lot to be honest

Football Fantasy Report

Aston Villa Football Club are located at Villa Park Football Ground in Birmingham. Aston Villa Football Club have played football there since 1897.

NEW REPORT REVEALS WHICH FOOTBALL FANS LIVE IN A FANTASY WORLD

Proving that love is blind, Manchester City fans are officially the Premier League’s top dreamers and optimists, according to a national football report launched today.

The ‘Football Fan-tasy’ report, an in-depth study by Littlewoods Football Pools, measures fans’ dreams and expectations against the reality of their clubs’ recent performances on the pitch, to finally uncover which fans live in a world of fantasy.

Almost 6,000 fans representing all 92 league clubs were studied in the report – produced in conjunction with the Football Fans Census – with each club ranked by comparing fans’ predictions over the next five years with their team’s record over the past five years.

Factors such as league performances, trophies won, the number of changes in manager and financial stability were used to benchmark each club, and with a new season upon us, fans will be hoping that the old saying ‘anything can happen in football’ rings true.

Manchester City fans were ranked highest in the Premiership “Dreamers Index” – ahead of fans of Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth, who finished second and third respectively. After a great start to the season, including a derby win against Manchester United, it seems that new City coach Sven Goran Eriksson shares the fans’ faith and optimism. Despite not winning a trophy in over 30 years and never finishing higher than eighth in the Premiership, City fans expect to win the FA Cup and Carling Cup by the time of the London Olympics.

Fulham and Wigan supporters were the biggest doom merchants in the Premiership; mirroring their clubs’ recent battles with relegation and managerial changes, whilst fans of Everton, Birmingham City and Aston Villa harboured the most realistic expectations after modest achievements on the pitch.

Hull City supporters entertain the most unrealistic hopes and ambitions in the Championship, with many dreaming of a place in the Premiership by 2012. Followers of Hartlepool, who have never been higher than the third tier of English football, can see their side progressing from League One, whilst League Two side Morecambe– newly promoted to the Football League, have set their team an optimistic target – League One football with 5 years.

The report also reveals that supporters of northern clubs out-do their southern counterparts when it comes to football fantasies, with northern teams topping each division of the “Dreamers Index”, and southern clubs such as Fulham, Southampton and Bournemouth having a more pessimistic view of their teams’ future.

Jon Sheehy, director of marketing for Sportech plc, owners of football fantasies, said: “Pressures within the modern game and the recent influx of major foreign investment has meant that fans’ hopes, dreams and expectations of their club have never been higher – or more unrealistic.

“To finally establish which supporters live in a dream world and which ones have the closest grip on reality, we have produced this in-depth report. By separating fact from fiction, we’ve hopefully given fans of all clubs the chance to see whether their dreams for the future are likely to come true, or simply cause more misery and heartache.”

The Ten Best Football Grounds in England

Aston Villa Football Team play at Villa Park Stadium in Birmingham. Aston Villa Football Team have played football there since 1897.

I’ve been supporting my team home and away for around 25 years and have been to many grounds throughout England. Over the years I’ve seen an incredible transformation in facilities and infrastructure, especially since the Taylor report was published. The huge amount of TV money and commercialisation of the game at the top level has meant clubs have been able to build incredible new stadia with all modern conveniences. They are undoubtedly more comfortable than the grounds they replaced but have they lost some of what made those grounds the places they were? Atmosphere, familiarity and location are three things that have often been overlooked when building a new stadium.

With the following list, I’ve tried to take all the factors that are important to me into consideration and given extra points if the stadium is impressive for some other reason.

10. Emirates Stadium – Arsenal

Arsenal have carried out the most ambitious plans of all the teams who have redeveloped in recent years. There are many reasons to dislike the stadium, it’s name and lack of atmosphere being just two but any fan of stadiums can help being in awe of the design of the arena.

9. Wembley – England

The rebuilt England stadium is architecturally the most impressive stadium in the world today. It has more toilets than any other building in the world and for that reason alone it goes into the top ten.

8. Fratton Park – Portsmouth

Portsmouth are another team planning a shiny new stadium in the not too distant future. Lets hope they transfer some of the charm and atmosphere from run down Fratton Park.

7. Villa Park – Aston Villa

The views are generally excellent and there are few better places for atmosphere and comfort. Architecturally it’s nothing to write home about but you can’t have everything.

6. The Galpharm Stadium – Huddersfield Town

For it’s unique architecture and great facilities, this stadium which was built in 1995 has the atmosphere of a much older ground.

5. St.James Park – Newcastle United

A hugely lop-sided stadium wedged into a small area right in the centre of Newcastle, it towers over the surrounding buildings. The atmosphere can be as good as anywhere on it’s day and the facilities are good.

4. KC Stadium – Hull

Excellent services, excellent views, good food and a decent atmosphere put this all rounder in the top ten.

3. Old Trafford – Manchester United

The ground has been developed bit by bit over the years. It is a huge stadium, the North Stand is the largest capacity stand in England. Atmosphere can be lacking at times but for history alone the so called Theatre of Dreams has got to be up there.

2. The Stadium of Light – Sunderland

Another new stadium. Although there is often a decent atmosphere, this one goes into the top ten for its facilities and food which are both beyond reproach.

1. Anfield – Liverpool FC

Liverpool have plans to build a new Anfield and interestingly plan to keep the legendary Kop, the stand on the south-west side of the stadium which tends to generate much of the excellent atmosphere in this old ground.

A special mention also goes to Easter Road Stadium, the home of Hibs. Atmosphere, facilities and views are second to none there but being north of the border means this one can’t be included.

When I started this list I didn’t think I would pick any new stadiums at all. The more I though about it, the more I realised that comfort, good views and good facilities are the most important things to me these days. In this respect, new stadiums generally beat older ones hands down. Next time you watch a football match, ask yourself if you like the stadium. If you do, ask why.

Alan Webber lives and works in Manchester, his passion is football and he spend as much time as possible visiting football grounds throughout Europe.

A special mention also goes to Easter Road Stadium, the home of Hibbs.
