Aston Villa continue their fabulous form on Tuesday with a superb win at Sunderland, coming out 2-0 winners. The win follows another win at Old Trafford and they seem to be gathering some very good momentum at the moment.
It does not look to be just a bit of luck either, they have the strenght in-depth to cope right till the end and could possible be a good outside bet for the Premiership title. Whilst other teams have to cope with European competition lke the Champions League and Europa League, Aston Villa, you may recall, were knocked out very early on meaning their players will be somewhat fresher.
The unity at Aston Villa seems to be at it’s highest since the 1980′s. The majority of players are young, strong and English meaning that the togetherness it at a very high point. Should they continue this form and perhap pull another 5 wins out of 6 then it is very likely that they will be top and certainly in the top 4.
Rafa Benitez has made the big mistake of “promising” something in football and that is a problem he may well not be able to keep, particularly if Villa continue on their current form. Tottenham and Manchester City do not look like top 4 challengers and will possibly lose players in the summer should they not sneak into the top 4.
With the World Cup coming up too, Manchester City players will use the tournament as a showcase for their skill to take them from the North of England to somewhere a little sunnier. The 4th spot is certainly in Aston Villas hands, should any other team get there, then it would be their undoing.
The online bookmakers have Aston Villa as 50/1 for the Premiership and 2/1 without the “big four”. Bookmakers may wish to change that, as Villa currently seem to be one of the big four.

Could David Cameron’s ‘allegiance’ with Aston Villa give him that edge in the Midland’s constituencies in 2010?
Whilst Gordon Brown probably won’t gain anything because of his support for a minor Scottish team, Cameron may have chosen wisely by pledging his loyalty to the biggest and most popular football club in the Midlands. Although he has no real links with the midlands (born, educated and resides in the South-east), the seats in the Midlands are very marginal. Good choice for Cameron then?
