Business Challenge

Arsenal FC required a fast, reliable card processing solution to seamlessly integrate with the chosen Micros point of sale (POS) systems which were situated at bar and restaurant outlets in the club and box levels within the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal FC required a technology that would be able to cope with the predicted increase of transaction volume that the new stadium was to bring. Previously, Highbury Stadium had match day visitor capacity of 38,419, the new Emirates stadium has a capacity for 60,000, a significant increase of 21,500 thousand people per match. We needed to ensure that the solution would enhance the level of customer service and add to the overall visitor experience.

Business Solution

They chose Servebase`s PC-EFT processing solution as it offers the key requirements for a stadium environment; fast transaction times and true reliability together with an online financial reporting tool. The system is for use in two ways; a customer not present pre-ordering facility for corporate hospitality and secondly for food and drink transactions on match days.

The installation involved the Micros POS system working with Thyron Chip and PIN devices, which are driven by enterprise editions of PC-EFT and connected to Arsenal FC`s chosen acquirer via a high speed X25 link.

The solution, running on clustered Microsoft SQL Servers provides a fully redundant and failover system.

Results

Since the Emirates Stadium opened its gates, Servebase`s tailored PC-EFT software solution has consistently coped with the high number of transactions. When the half time whistle blows, the system has proven to have the capability of supporting the huge volumes of near simultaneous transactions. The multi-threading application has ensured that our outlets have been able to accept up to sixteen authorisations per second, whilst others are being systematically queued for authorisation.
